IN THEIR WORDS
Wongung10

You can't just pretend to lead — you actually have to lead it.

Explaining the move where the left-hand connection brings the follow down, stressing that real force has to transfer

Watch that moment →

If this weight only comes from my left hand, it feels sharp to her. It has to come from my body.

Explaining that in the move where you drop down with the left hand, the force has to originate from the torso, not the hand

Watch that moment →

You have to lock the frame like it's Lego — then the body stays still and only the arms move. That's isolation.

Explaining the separation of arm frame and body — isolation — in the rotisserie turn

Watch that moment →

We don't lead. We just connect and dance together.

Explaining how to let your partner move on their own during a compression move

Watch that moment →

If you don't get in her way, she'll finish the head roll on her own. You don't need to lead every single moment.

Emphasizing the follower's autonomous movement after the head roll initiation

Watch that moment →

You can't take this lead with your arm. Keep your frame exactly as it is and take the lead with your body.

Explaining how to absorb the lead with the body so the frame doesn't break during the side down move

Watch that moment →

If I go down with my whole body, it feels solid — weighty, even — but it never feels rough to her. It's smooth.

Demonstrating a head roll lead that goes down with the whole body instead of the elbow.

Watch that moment →

The one who finishes it is the girl. You squeeze the hips all the way out to the limit, but the upper body can't go wandering off — keep it where it is and squeeze all the way through.

Explaining the follow's fixed upper body and hip use at the end of the hip movement sequence

Watch that moment →

When you draw a half circle with energy in your left hand and drop down, she doesn't stop right away — she carries a little further and takes that opening energy with her.

Explaining the flow of energy the follow should carry after a head movement lead

Watch that moment →

This left hand has to carry a really good connection — that's how I can send the energy of my body straight into her.

Stressing the role of the left-hand connection and the quality of the energy transfer

I lead without using force. If she leans on me, I can't lead. That's not what bachata sensual is about. Sensual is about letting her move on her own, stand on her own.

Explains a leading philosophy — the lead isn't pushing your partner with force, it's letting your partner find her own balance

Watch that moment →

Most of us don't have that natural Latin feel. But teachers never tell you how to train it. So we break it down and turn it into something you can actually practice and train.

Explains a teaching philosophy of breaking natural Latin movement down into trainable pieces

Watch that moment →

Once you've mastered the basic solidly, the day will come when you're dancing with all those fancy head moves.

Left at the end of a tough head roll combo, on why the fundamentals matter

Watch that moment →

She has to take that pressing energy and let it press her down — she can't just go inside on her own.

On the head roll turn: the follower answers the leader's press, and never moves first by herself.

Watch that moment →

Whatever the head or the arms do is just the result of what the lower body made.

Teaching a head roll combo and stressing that the lower body, not the flashy upper body, is the real thing

Watch that moment →

From the moment she starts to turn, you should be pushing her, nice and snug. If you push while the tension's already there, it never startles her.

The leader has to hold steady tension through the turn so nothing lands abruptly on the follower.

Watch that moment →

Before you put a style on it or chase a trend, the most basic thing is lead-follow and understanding the principles.

Explaining Sensual Lab's curriculum philosophy and stressing the importance of fundamentals.

Watch that moment →

Even without the hard head moves — start from an accurate bachata basic step.

Advice that the lower-body basics come first, before any combo

Watch that moment →

Dance can't be separated from music. So we put a really heavy focus on classes about music.

Explaining how much weight musicality training carries in the curriculum.

Watch that moment →

I think it has to actually get used in socials. We teach the basics of why a move comes out the way it does, why you have to follow it this way.

Describing Sensual Lab's teaching direction and its principle of teaching what actually gets used in social dancing.

Watch that moment →

You don't have to touch me. Instead of controlling all the time, up top you just let her grow on her own.

Explains how a lead can give their partner freedom instead of controlling every upper-body movement

Watch that moment →

It's not about just copying a move — I explain why this tension happens.

Explaining their teaching style at a European workshop

With Jack & Jill, what matters is chopping the music up a lot to bring out an instrument or a hook — how you can break the music down and listen to it, how you can bring it out using the structure of the music as your base. What to use in the intro, how to use it in the mambo section — having those sources became the foundation that lets me do Jack & Jill.

Answering a question about how you analyze and use the music in Jack & Jill

Watch that moment →

Learning how to express the instruments helped a lot. Even in class you can't cover every single song, and there's no guarantee only songs I know will come on — but when a certain rhythm section comes up, where before I could only use my hips, the more I learned the more I could use my shoulders too, my head too. That helped.

Explaining the range of body expression you can draw on when unexpected music comes on in a real situation
